The Differences Between The Two
The main difference between these two types of coffees is how they are made. Iced Coffee is simply brewed coffee with ice. You can either pour brewed coffee over ice or refrigerate the brew and then add ice to it later. Cold brew is made by soaking coarse ground coffee in room temperature water for about 12 to 24 hours. This process creates a highly caffeinated brew that is less acidic and is extremely smooth to drink.
The brewing process of cold brew relies on time. While the ground coffee is soaked, the extraction takes effect. The longer the beans are soaked, the more flavourful the brew will be. These factors also depend on the type of coffee beans used. Since the extraction process of cold brew takes so many hours, this process can extract very complex flavour profiles from the beans. Resulting in a sweet and chocolatey flavoured brew.
Iced coffee, on the other hand, relies on hot water for extraction. Taking 4-5 minutes to fulfil a brew. Iced coffee, is relatively quick, due to the high temperatures of the water. Brewing is done within 4-5 minutes, resulting in a bold, bitter and acidic brew.
