Plating wears through at the handle and the spout first - the places a hand goes - and once it does it cannot be restored. Solid copper tarnishes instead, which polishes back, and lacquered copper does neither but must be kept out of a dishwasher or the lacquer clouds. Rose gold on a modern appliance is almost always plating.
