Best Nespresso Original Machines

Every Nespresso Original machine brews the same capsule at broadly the same pressure. That fact should shape the whole purchase: the coffee is decided by the pod, not the machine, so what you are choosing between is size, milk handling and how long the thing lasts.

The capsule is the product. The machine is the housing

An Original capsule holds around 5g of coffee and the machine's job is to push hot water through it at pressure. A more expensive Original machine does not extract a better shot from the same pod in any way you will reliably taste. It gives you a bigger tank, a milk system, a nicer body or a faster warm-up.

This is genuinely different from espresso machines, where the grinder, the pressure profile and the temperature stability change the cup. Here the variables were fixed at the factory that filled the capsule.

Milk is the real fork in the range

The meaningful split is between machines that only brew and machines with an Aeroccino or integrated frother. If you drink flat whites and lattes, that is the decision and everything else is detail; if you drink black coffee, a milk system is money spent on a device that will sit unused and still need cleaning.

Tank size and warm-up, in that order

A small tank on a machine used by two people means refilling every day or two, which is the most common complaint about the smallest models. Warm-up matters less than the specification suggests - most are ready in well under a minute, and the difference between 25 and 40 seconds is not a purchase decision.

What to ignore

Bar pressure as a differentiator. Nearly every Original machine states 19 bar, the figure is a pump maximum rather than what reaches the coffee, and it is identical across models that cost three times different amounts. It tells you nothing about which one to buy.
