What is Ispirazione Firenze Arpeggio?
The dark, cocoa-heavy capsule of Nespresso's Italian Original range.
Nespresso frames the Ispirazione Italiana range as a tour of Italian coffee cities, and Florence is its dark one: fruity notes from the north combined with cocoa from the south, in their words.
Rated 9 on Nespresso's scale, at $9.00 a sleeve of ten, which is 90 cents a capsule.
Which machines does it fit?
Nespresso Original machines, and the many third-party machines built for Original capsules.
Original is the open half of Nespresso. The patents expired, so De'Longhi, Breville and others build machines that take these capsules, other roasters make compatible ones, and refillable pods exist. That competition is what puts a floor under what a cup costs for as long as you own the machine.
It will not fit a Vertuo. Those capsules are larger and carry a barcode the machine reads to set the pour, and the two systems share a brand and nothing else.
What is in the capsule
A dark-roasted blend rated 9, with bitterness and roastiness both at 4 of 5.
The taste panel is the useful part here and it is unambiguous: bitterness 4, roastiness 4, acidity 2. That is a coffee built for depth rather than brightness, and it is why this is the capsule that works with milk.
A lot of capsules disappear into a cappuccino. Milk covers acidity and flattens aromatics, so a coffee that leads with those ends up tasting like warm milk. One rated 4 for bitterness does not.
What is missing is the origin. Nespresso names no country for this blend, where its Volluto names Brazil and Colombia and its Cosi names Africa and Latin America. It also publishes no dose in grams.
What a cup costs
90 cents a pod, sleeves of ten, which is the only size sold.
That is the floor for Nespresso Original and the same as Roma, Capriccio, Cosi, Volluto and Ristretto Italiano. Nespresso prices most of this range identically regardless of intensity or origin.
The decaf version is 95 cents, a five-cent premium.
What happens to the capsule afterwards
Aluminium, returned through Nespresso's mail-back scheme rather than your kerbside bin.
Free collection bags from Nespresso, handed in at a UPS drop-off point or a boutique. It is funded and it works if you use it.
The distinction worth keeping is between a scheme you join and a bin already emptied at your door. Aluminium is endlessly recyclable in principle; this capsule is recycled only if you post it back.
Firenze Arpeggio vs Ispirazione Roma
Two Italian-range capsules at the same price, one dark and one light.
Firenze is rated 9 with roastiness 4 and acidity 2. Roma is rated 8 with roast level 3 and acidity 4. Despite the close intensity numbers they are opposite coffees: Firenze is deep and low-acid, Roma is bright and lighter roasted.
If you drink milk, Firenze. If you drink it black and want the coffee to taste of something other than roast, Roma. Only Firenze has a decaf.
Is Firenze Arpeggio worth it?
For milk drinks on an Original machine, it is the obvious choice in the range.
It does one thing clearly and the published panel backs it up rather than just asserting it, which is more than most capsule marketing manages.
The reservation is the same for every capsule here: 90 cents a cup is several times what beans cost, and Nespresso will not tell you how many grams you are buying.
Who should buy it (and who should not)
Original owners who drink cappuccinos, lattes and flat whites.
Buy it if your coffee keeps vanishing into the milk. Buy it if you want a dark capsule with a decaf version available for the evening.
Do not buy it if you drink espresso black and want fruit or brightness, because acidity 2 of 5 is a deliberate choice against both.

Is Firenze Arpeggio good with milk?
It is the one in this range built for it. Nespresso publishes bitterness at 4 of 5 and roastiness at 4 of 5, and those are the qualities that survive milk. Coffees that lead on acidity and aromatics tend to disappear into a cappuccino.
What is the difference between Arpeggio and Firenze Arpeggio?
They are different capsules in different sub-ranges. This one is part of Ispirazione Italiana, Nespresso's Italian city series, and is the Florence entry. Nespresso also sells an Arpeggio and an Arpeggio Extra separately.
Is there a decaf version?
Yes, Firenze Arpeggio Decaffeinato, which Nespresso links from the same page. It costs 95 cents a capsule against 90 for the caffeinated one.
What size cup does it make?
Both a 25ml ristretto and a 40ml espresso. Nespresso lists it for either, and on the Original system the cup size is set by how long you hold the button rather than by the capsule.
Where does the coffee come from?
Nespresso does not say. It describes combining northern Italian fruity notes with southern cocoa notes, which is about the roast rather than the origin, and names no growing country.
