The verdict

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio brews three ways: a K-Cup pod, a single cup from loose grounds, or up to twelve cups into a carafe, drawing single servings from a 56oz removable reservoir.

Pros

  • Three brew modes: a pod single cup, a grounds single cup, or up to 12 cups into a carafe, which is two machines in one footprint
  • A dedicated single-serve grounds basket, so pods are optional
  • Up to 14oz from grounds, and a 90-second single cup
  • A 1.66 litre tank, published as seven single servings

Cons

  • Pods cap out at 10oz where grounds reach 14
  • No price, wattage or weight published
  • No warranty term is published

What is the FlexBrew Trio?

A pod machine and a drip machine sharing one chassis, plus a third basket for a single cup of grounds.

Hamilton Beach publishes three brew modes, a single cup up to 10oz from a pod or up to 14oz from grounds, a 12 cup glass carafe, a 90 second single cup brew, and a 56oz removable reservoir it rates at seven single servings. It measures 12.3 by 11.1 by 13.5 inches.

Why the grounds basket matters more than the carafe

It is the only setting that lets you escape the pod price without a separate purchase.

Almost every K-Cup machine will take a reusable filter, but you buy it separately and it is a compromised version of the pod. The FlexBrew's single-serve grounds basket is a designed-in second brewer with its own basket and its own larger 14oz ceiling.

That means a household can keep pods for the person who wants convenience and use a bag of ground coffee for the person who does not, on the same machine, at the same time of morning. On running cost alone that is the strongest argument here, and it is stronger than the carafe.

What three brewers in one box actually costs

Combination appliances buy convenience with parts count.

There are more baskets, more seals and more paths for water, and each of them is a thing that can leak, clog or need descaling. A dedicated drip machine and a K-Mini bought separately will typically cost about the same, take more counter, and fail independently rather than together.

The honest case for the combination is counter space and a single point of maintenance. The honest case against it is that when it dies you lose all three functions at once.

FlexBrew Trio vs Cuisinart Coffee Center

The two pod-and-carafe machines, and the difference is the third mode.

The Cuisinart Coffee Center SS-4N1 is the other pod-and-carafe combination here and adds cold brew, which the Hamilton Beach does not attempt.

The FlexBrew's answer is the dedicated single-serve grounds basket, which the Cuisinart does not have. Cold brew against a cheaper daily cup, in other words. If you drink iced coffee through the summer, the Cuisinart. If the goal is to stop buying pods, this.

Is the FlexBrew Trio worth it?

Worth it for a divided household. Poor value for a single pod drinker.

Its value is entirely in serving two different habits from one plug and one square of counter. If everybody in the house drinks pods, you are paying for a carafe that will stay in the cupboard.

Hamilton Beach publishes no wattage, no warranty term and no keep-warm duration for the carafe on this listing, which is worth confirming if the pot will sit for an hour. The 56oz tank feeds the single-serve side only.

Who should buy it (and who should not)

Buy it for a household split between one cup on weekdays and a pot at the weekend.

It suits a small kitchen that would otherwise need two machines, a family with one pod drinker and one filter drinker, and anybody trying to cut a pod habit gradually rather than all at once.

Do not buy it for espresso, because it is a drip brewer in all three modes and makes none. And do not buy it for milk drinks: there is no frother.

Frequently Asked Questions
