What is the Clever Coffee Dripper?
A cone with a valve in the bottom that stays shut until you put it down.
Clever publishes an 18oz capacity, BPA-free Tritan construction, a patented release valve, and a box containing 100 filters, a lid and a coaster. It fits cups and thermoses with a top between 1.5 and 3.75 inches across.
You add a filter, coffee and water, let it steep as long as you like, then set it on a mug and the valve opens.
Why steeping then draining beats doing both at once
It removes the one variable pour over never lets you control.
In a normal pour over, water is arriving and leaving simultaneously. Contact time is a consequence of your pour rate, the grind and how the bed settles, which is why the same recipe gives different results on different mornings and why pour over rewards practice.
Immersion decouples them. Everything steeps for exactly as long as you decide, then drains through paper. You get the forgiveness of a French press and the clean cup of a filter, and the only skill involved is setting a timer.
That is the same idea as the Hario Switch, arrived at independently and years earlier.
Clever vs Hario Switch

The Hario Switch 02 is heatproof glass with a stainless ball valve, holds 200ml, and looks like a piece of laboratory glass. The 03 takes that to 360ml.
The Clever is Tritan plastic at 532ml, which is more than either, and it costs considerably less. It also opens by gravity when set on a mug rather than by a switch you press, which is one fewer thing to think about but means it will drain if you rest it on anything flat.
Is the Clever Dripper worth it?
Yes, and it is the most forgiving brewer on this site.
For somebody who wants good filter coffee without learning to pour, this is the shortest route there is. 100 filters in the box means it works on day one, and 532ml covers two mugs.
Clever publishes no weight, no warranty and no country of manufacture, and the body is plastic where the Switch is glass. Our build scoring ranks that below stainless or glass, which is the correct arithmetic even though Tritan is genuinely tough.
Who should buy it (and who should not)
Buy it if your pour overs are inconsistent and you would rather not practise.
It suits a beginner, an office, a household where several people brew differently, and anybody who likes paper-filtered coffee but finds a V60 fussy. It is also the cheapest way to try immersion brewing properly.
Do not buy it if you want a reusable filter, since it is paper only. And check the mug: the valve needs a rim between 1.5 and 3.75 inches, so a wide bowl-style cup will not open it.
