What is the Jura J8?
Jura's mid-range flagship, with the most drinks below the Z10.
The J8 sits between Jura's E-line and its top Z10. It makes 31 specialities, has the second-generation Professional Aroma Grinder, the P.A.G.2+, and adds two features you do not find lower down: Sweet Foam, which blends syrup into the milk foam, and Coffee Eye, which detects the cup you put down and adapts the drinks shown on the display. It is made in Switzerland, model year 2022, and comes in Midnight Silver and Piano Black.

The drinks, and Sweet Foam
Every milk classic, twice: plain and sweet.
The 31 specialities cover espresso, coffee, Americano, lungo, doppio, cortado, espresso macchiato, caffe latte, cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato, the milk drinks also with an extra shot, plus milk, milk foam, hot water and hot water for green tea. What lifts the count is Sweet Foam: a syrup attachment adds syrup into the milk foam, so there is a sweet version of the cortado, macchiato, latte, cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato. If you buy vanilla or caramel lattes at a cafe, this is the feature that replaces them.
The HP3 milk system switches between milk and milk foam automatically and cleans itself at one touch. A syrup attachment, a milk pipe and the milk-cleaning container come in the box; Jura sells a Cool Control milk cooler and a milk carafe separately.
The grinder and brewing
More grind control than most automatics.
The P.A.G.2+ has seven grind levels and Jura says it monitors grind consistency. Combined with 10 strength levels, three brew temperatures and a brew unit that takes 5 to 16 g, that is more adjustment than most automatic machines allow. Jura's Pulse Extraction Process brews short specialities in pulses for a more aromatic shot. There is a powder chute for ground coffee, for a decaf without emptying the hopper.
Cleaning and upkeep
Most of it is automatic, but not all.
The J8 has an integrated rinsing, cleaning and descaling programme, a monitored drip tray, and one-touch automatic cleaning of the milk system, which Jura says meets TUV-certified hygiene. The CLEARYL Smart+ water filter is detected by an RFID chip and tells you when it is used up, and Jura says to use its own cleaning and descaling tablets. You still empty the grounds container, which holds about 16 servings, and rinse the milk pipe. Coffee spout height runs from 2.6 to 4.4 inches for espresso and 4.2 to 6 inches for milk drinks, so a tall latte glass fits. Our guide to bean-to-cup milk systems explains how Jura's compares with a jug or a wand.
J8 vs J8 twin
One grinder or two.
Jura also sells the J8 twin, model year 2024, at $3,599 at authorised dealers. It has two P.A.G.3+ grinders with 180 g hoppers each, so you can keep two coffees loaded, such as a dark espresso and a decaf, and a 6.7 inch Panorama Coffee Panel. It has the same 31 drinks and 1.9 litre tank. If you only ever use one coffee, the J8 makes the same drinks for $1,000 less.
J8 vs Jura E8 and Z10
One step up, one step down.
The Jura E8 lists at $2,599 with 17 drinks, the P.A.G.2 grinder and the same HP3 milk system. At today's shop price the J8 costs the same and adds 14 drinks, Sweet Foam and Coffee Eye, so check both prices when you buy. The Jura Z10 at $4,499 makes 51 drinks, including Cold Brew and Light Brew, with a 2.4 litre tank. The J8 is the sensible middle unless you want cold drinks.
Is the Jura J8 worth it?
At $2,599, for a household that drinks milk coffee every day, yes.
It makes more drinks than anything below the Z10, cleans its milk system for you, and is built in Switzerland. At its $3,299 list price it is harder to justify against the E8. Jura's warranty is two years or 6,000 brewings, whichever comes first. For a cheaper Jura, the ENA 8 makes 15 drinks for $1,899. Our bean-to-cup machines category ranks every automatic we cover, and our stainless steel bean-to-cup machines list includes the J8's rivals.
Who should buy it (and who should not)
Buy it if
- You drink flavoured lattes and want them at home.
- Several people use the machine and want different drinks.
- You want a Swiss-made Jura with automatic milk cleaning.
Skip it if
- You want cold brew: that is the Z10.
- You switch between two coffees daily: that is the J8 twin.
- You only drink espresso and coffee: an E-line Jura costs less.
