Eight curated series are offered, each rotating within a theme: Small Batch at $24.95 a pound, Single Origin at $23.95, Seasonal Essentials at $24.95, Cold Brew and Decaf at $22.95, Dark Roast at $21.95, Medium Roast at $20.95 and Signature Blend at $19.95. Alongside those, any individual Peet's coffee can be put on a subscription, from House Blend at $19.95 a pound to Arabian Mocha Sanani at $31.95.
Peet's has been roasting since 1966 and the dark roasts are its signature. This is a subscription for somebody who wants a reliable pound of coffee turning up, not a tour of small roasters.
What you get, and what it costs
$19.95 a pound is $43.98 a kilo, delivery included. Nothing else in this comparison is close.
The per-kilo table is worth setting out, because it is the number this site exists to surface and the one sales pages avoid. Peet's Signature Blend Series is $43.98 a kilo. Atlas is $58.82. Stumptown is $58.82. Trade is $70.94 on its standard bag, before postage. Even Peet's dearest curated series, at $24.95 a pound, is $55.01 a kilo and undercuts everything here except its own stablemates.
Pricing by the pound is itself worth crediting. Every other service quotes a bag, and the bag is 10oz, 11oz, 12oz or unstated depending on who you ask, which is precisely what stops buyers comparing. A price per pound converts in one step.

How fresh is the coffee?
Peet's says hand roasted and delivered directly. It does not say roasted to order, and the difference is the whole criterion.
Trade, Misto, Intelligentsia and Origin all state that roasting happens after you order. Peet's page describes "the freshest coffee, hand roasted and delivered directly to you", which is a claim about the supply chain rather than about the sequence. No roast-to-despatch figure is given and no roast date is promised.
That is the honest reading of what is published, and it is most of the gap between Peet's price and its score. A coffee at $43.98 a kilo that arrived four days after roasting would be the best deal in this category; the page does not let anybody claim that.
Can you cancel it?

Peet's puts the exit into the description of the service rather than into a policy document: choose, customise, enjoy, and "reschedule or cancel your box at any time". There is no minimum number of deliveries and no notice period stated.
Rescheduling is offered explicitly, which covers the common case of having too much coffee already. What the page does not name separately is a pause, and there is no money-back guarantee. As exits go it is adequate rather than generous, and adequate is above average in this market.

Peet's sends its own coffee, includes postage, makes no roasting-to-order claim, and charges $43.98 a kilo. That is a 38% difference in the price of the coffee itself.
Neither is the right answer generally. If the point of subscribing is to drink things you would not have found, Trade does that and Peet's cannot. If the point is to stop running out of good coffee at a sensible price, Peet's does it for two-thirds of the money.

Is Peet's worth it?
On price, comfortably. It is the value option in this category and it is not close.
$43.98 a kilo with delivery included, from a roaster with sixty years behind it and eight curated series to choose from, is a straightforwardly good deal. If what you want is a decent pound of coffee arriving without thought, this is the one to buy.
The reservations are about what is not claimed rather than what is. No roasted-to-order, no specialty grade, no sourcing certification on the subscriptions page. Buyers who care about those should pay the difference and buy from a curator; buyers who want good coffee cheaply should not.
Who should subscribe (and who should not)
Subscribe if price per kilo is the number you care about. Do not subscribe if roast date is.
