The Miele CM 5310 Silence is a countertop bean-to-cup machine with a conical grinder, a milk system that draws from a flask or carton, and OneTouch for Two. Miele sells it for $2,199.00 on its US site.
What is the Miele CM 5310 Silence?
It is the entry model in Miele's countertop line, which the manual shares with the CM 5300, 5410, 5510 and 5710. You fill a 200 g bean container, choose a drink on a DirectSensor control panel and the machine grinds, brews and, for milk drinks, froths through a Cappuccinatore built into the central spout. The data sheet lists ristretto, espresso, coffee, long coffee, cappuccino, hot milk, latte macchiato, milk froth and caffe latte, most as single or double, plus a coffee pot function for filling a flask.
The manual is shared across the series, and some features it describes belong to the 5410 and up, such as profiles and a hot water button. This page keeps to what Miele states for the CM 5310.

How the Miele CM 5310 makes milk drinks
A tube runs from the Cappuccinatore to the milk, which can be a carton, a jug or Miele's optional milk flask. The data sheet lists cappuccino, latte macchiato and caffe latte, and the OneTouch for Two function makes two cappuccinos or two latte macchiatos in one go. The amount of milk and milk froth can be programmed.
Miele's glass milk flask ($99.99) is an accessory, not part of the box. The manual says the milk pipework must be cleaned regularly, because milk residue can go off and block it, and Miele's spec sheet lists automatic rinsing of the milk pipework from the water container and a removable pipework.
Grinder, brew unit and upkeep
The grinder is steel and conical, with five settings behind the service panel. The machine grinds 6 to 14 g per cup, and Miele says the more beans, the stronger the coffee. Brewing temperature and pre-brewing can be set per drink. A ground coffee chute takes up to 12 g for decaf or another blend.
The brew unit lifts out and is cleaned by hand with warm water, never in the dishwasher. The manual asks for the brew unit to be greased once a year and degreased with a cleaning tablet when the machine prompts, and for the machine to be descaled with a tablet when prompted. The drip tray, waste unit, water container and central spout (without its stainless steel cover) are dishwasher safe.
Miele CM 5310 vs Miele CM 6360 and Jura E6
The Miele CM 6360 MilkPerfection is the same brand a step up at $2,999. It adds a 300 g hopper, a 1.8 liter tank, eight profiles, Wi-Fi and a glass milk flask, against 200 g, 1.3 liters and none of those here. The pump pressure (15 bar) and the five-setting steel grinder match.
The Jura E6 costs $300 less than the CM 5310 and lists 11 recipes, a 1.9 liter tank and a 280 g hopper, with 10 strength settings. The Miele costs more and has the smaller tank and hopper. Its case rests on OneTouch for Two and a brew unit that lifts out, plus programmable coffee amount and brew temperature per drink.
Is the Miele CM 5310 Silence worth it?
At $2,199.00 you are paying for Miele's build and a removable brew unit, with a standard two-year warranty. The 1.3 liter tank is small for a machine making milk drinks, and Miele publishes no decibel figure to back the Silence name, so that part of the model name is not something the numbers confirm.
Who should buy the Miele CM 5310 Silence (and who should not)
It suits a household that wants cappuccino and latte macchiato from one button, for one or two people at once, and values a brew unit that comes out for rinsing. It does not suit anyone who wants a hot water dispenser, which the manual lists for the 5410 and up, or a large tank. The CM 6360 or a Jura fits those needs better.
